In rental properties, a heating failure requires quick resolution. If you have a burst pipe, isolate the water at the main stopcock while you wait. For any suspected gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and leave the building immediately — do not contact a private engineer until the gas supply has been made safe.
